Christmas Song

After posting yesterday's song, I thought I'd post another today. Dave Matthews Band is my favorite band. I love this song. It's a Christmas song, but in a subtle way. Enjoy.

Merry Christmas Eve!

A hymn.

Did I tell you about seeing Sufjan Stevens live? I can't remember, but it was absolutely the most mind blowing concert I've ever been to. Trippy and colorful and energetic. I felt so alive that night. But his music doesn't always have that affect on me. Sometimes, it is so perfectly soothing and calm that I almost fall asleep (but in a good way). One of my favorite songs also just happens to be one of my favorite hymns. It came up on my Christmas Pandora station today, so I thought I'd share it with you. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

i was sad last night. i love being a stay at home mom, but it has lonely moments. it has lonely weeks. this was one of those. so, as meredith napped and i forced myself off the couch, i blasted this in the kitchen as i cut potatoes. it helped, even if just for a minute. hope this pumps you up a bit on this friday.

post edit: one of my friends shared this video in the comments. you have to check it out. SO funny. i'm still on the hunt for the magic song for meredith.

My latest favorite song. Such a fun jam. If you haven't heard it yet, do yourself a favor and check it out :)

Alabama Arkansas I do Love my Ma and Pa
But not as much as I do Love you
Holy Moly Me oh My your the apple of my eye
Girl aint never loved one like you
Man o Man your my best friend I scream it to the nothingness
that we got everything we need
Hot and Heavy pumpkin pie
Chocolate candy Jesus Christ
Aint nothin please me more than you

(Chorus)
Home, Let me come Home
Home is Whenever Im with you
Home, yes I am Home
Home is wherever Im with you

Lalalala Take me Home
Mama Im Coming Home

I follow you into the park, thru the jungle thru the dark
Girl aint never loved one like you
Moats and boats and Waterfalls, Alleyways and payphone calls
I been everywhere with you
Laugh until we think we'll die, barefoot on a summer night
never could be sweeter than with you

like its only you and me jade/ebes your somethin to see

(Chorus)

Lalalala take me home
Mama Im Comin Home

Jade, you remember that night you fell outa my window?
ya you came jumpin out after me
well, you were bleedin all over the place and I covered your ass with your dress and we went off to the hospital, you remember that?
ya
well there's somethin I never told you bout that night
what didnt you tell me?
well, while you were sitting in the back seat smokin a cigarrette you thought was gona be your last, I was fallin deep, deep in love with you, and I never told you till just now!

(Chorus)

Home, let me come home, home is wherever Im with you
Home, yes I am Home home is whenever Im with you!

Alabama Arkansas I do love my Ma and Pa
Yes Home, yes ward! home is whenever Im with you!
Home is whenever Im with you.

Disappointed

Ever heard of The Roches? The are a rocking set of sisters with beautiful melodies. To hear one of their songs head here. But, that's not really the point. They have a song called Disappointed. That's how I'm feeling right now.

If I think I'm gonna have a chocolate sundae
but it's Sunday
And when I get to the door of the ice cream store
it says closed
Sitting down on the sidewalk
I feel like I'm gonna cry
You can call me silly but I don't think I am
and here's why

I'm disappointed disappointed
I didn't get what I wanted
I might get over it someday
but for now I think I'll stay
Disappointed that's all

Shelly's coming over for a playdate and I can't wait
But just before the doorbell rings
the telephone does and it brings
the bad news
Shelly's mom says she's not coming
she's come down with the flu
We were gonna have some fun but now there's
nothing to do

I'm disappointed
I didn't get what I wanted
I might get over it someday
but for now I think I'll stay
Disappointed that's all

Woke up yesterday and it was snowing
I won't be going
I lay in bed and realized I was a little bit surprised
it felt good
Because the place that I was going
wasn't circus it was school
Instead of being angry I was happy I was cool

Not disappointed
This time I got what I wanted
I didn't know it at first
then I jumped up with a burst
Not disappointed that's all

I feel like the kid in the story who didn't get the chocolate ice cream cone. Chris and I didn't get the apartment we wanted. We are moving into a two bedroom so we have space for our baby. There are some rough apartments out there. This one was so nice and clean and bright and spacious. I can't believe we didn't get it and it's hard, right now, to trust we'll find a better place. And instead of hunting for new places I want to sit here a mope. But that's not helpful.

The other favorite.

Last week I wrote about Breath of Heaven, one of my favorite Christmas songs. Grown Up Christmas List is tied. It's corny. I know. But, seriously, its a good list. So, listen and enjoy.

To see the actual video, go here. It's perfectly cheesy in every way.

Favorite Christmas Song

Happy December!!!
christmas & my birthday. good month :)

As I mentioned yesterday, I've been rocking out to Amy Grant's Christmas CD. It is my very favorite. I really love every song. Today, I'll share with you what might be my favorite song from the CD. It's tied with another, which I'll share later. If you don't own this CD- you should! I love the song and the words. So, here are both.

I have traveled many moonless nights

Cold and weary, with a babe inside

And I wonder what I've done

Holy Father, you have come

And chosen me now

To carry your son

I am waiting in a silent prayer

I am frightened by the load I bear

In a world as cold as stone,

Must I walk this path alone?

Be with me now

Be with me now

Breath of heaven

Hold me together

Be forever near me

Breath of heaven

Breath of heaven

Light in my darkness

Pour over me your holiness

For you are holy

Breath of heaven

Do you wonder as you watch my face

If a wiser one one should have had my place

But I offer all I am

For the mercy of your plan

Help me be strong

Strawberry Swinging.

You might remember me mentioning my intense love for Coldplay, particularly Viva La Vida, a while back. I still love it, though I have to admit my CD on repeat these days is Big Whiskey and the Groo Grux King.

I follow Coldplay on Twitter and they just linked up to the new video for Strawberry Swing, which is one of my favorite tracks from the album. I highly recommend checking it out. Its very clever with the entire background drawn in chalk and with acting by Chris Martin that further confirms his absolute quirkiness. And while I must admit I had a more literal image of the song stuck in my head, I like the images they created.

Enjoy!

ps- yes i'm back from vacation but am overwhelmed by blogging it. soon to come, promise.

Be Still, My Soul

One of my very favorite spiritual songs is Be Still, My Soul. If I'm overwhelmed, emotional or generally stressed, thinking about the words to the song or listening to it on my ipod calms me down and really does help me soul be still.

I'm dedicating this post to my favorite bride-to-be whose wedding is this Saturday. This week will be a busy, emotional and potentially overwhelming week for her. Hoping this song comforts her the way it does me.

New Song to Love

I love Ingrid Michaelson. Her songs reflect innocence as well as peace that I love listening to. Somehow, though, I didn't really hear the last track of her album, Far Away, until today. It perfectly captures how I feel about my life right now. I would love to go far away, to a lovely, quiet island and live with my husband (who is a lobsterman-sweet) and three daughters, (whoe names are little Ella and Nelly and Faye-ok, sure). I can really get lost in the song and the idea of living far away.

I really love my life in so many ways. I love my little apartment and my new furniture. I love my job and precious 9 kindergarteners. I have a wonderful family and some great friends. I am a happy wife. But still, there is an itching inside of me to strike out and do something different. Life flies by and I wonder where our life will end up. I mostly don't want to passively end up living somewhere. I want to make a concerted effort and thoughtful decision about where we decide to "settle down." And lately, I've been thinking about that place being a middle-of-nowhere, right on the water, prefereably near mountains also, patch of land. We'll see.

*please pardon the hideous picture above. its the only video with the actual track i could find :)
