To Kindle, or not.

Last week, we talked books. You gave me some great reading recommendations. Thanks! This got me thinking. Are you a still an old-fashioned paper book person or have you moved on to a Kindle?

I hadn't really paid the first bit of attention to e-readers until just before Christmas, I think it was Chris who brought it up as a potential gift idea for me. It stuck and I got one wrapped up under the tree.

I love it.  Mostly I love it because it makes reading while nursing possible. Reading a book requires two hands and it is hard to have two truly free hands while nursing. With a kindle, I can simply click a button and turn the page. My kindle truly brought reading back into my life.

I do miss reading books, though. I miss outings to the bookstore. I miss the feel of grainy paper under my fingers. I miss running a hot bath and sinking into it, book in hand.

So I'm torn. I see why people hate the way things are going with Kindles and Nooks, but now that I have one, I am a fan of its perks.

How about you? Will you be clicking away? Or turning pages old school style?

Both! I have a ton of real books that need to be read in my house...but I also love being able to sit down with my kindle and buy a book I want right then. Plus there's the whole nursing thing I'm thinking of.

I LOVE my kindle. I didn't have it when I was nursing, but I will definitely be using it when the second baby gets here. It's great because Sean isn't interested in it like he is our phones and laptops because it doesn't light up. Some days I am able to read while he plays which is wonderful!

I'm a real book fan, but having said that, I've also never tried a kindle. My mom used one in Europe and raved about it's convenience, it's slim, and travels well, as opposed to toting around 3-4 novels you may read during a long vacay...

I never thought of the nursing perk, when I have kids, I might have to convert. Although I'll probably still buy books just so they look nice on my shelf.

I know people like them, but I can't personally see the need. There are plenty of other ways I'd like to spend my money. Plus, I've been checking out books from the library so I'm not spending tons on books.

Even on vacations, I'm usually only reading one or two books, so it's not a hassle to take them with me. With places like amazon and thrift stores, I can still find real books for cheap too. I guess for me (since I obv don't nurse), I just don't see the need for spending money on a kindle. Oh and I do love filling my bookshelves with books :)

i love, love, love my kindle. i love how i can just pick it up and read whichever book i want without having to fumble through a pile of books... especially when traveling. it makes it much easier to read in bed, too.

i do, like you, miss the feeling of an actual book and bookstore. i still go in, but it's much cheaper since i don't buy as much. :)

I love both. Atm I just have kindle on my macbook, but it's nice to have the instant gratification of buying a book rather than having to wait for it to ship to Australia. I do, however, love the smell of books, the feel of them, and the fact that it's something more tangible than using a kindle. I don't have to worry about a book dying or losing a file or going haywire in a few years. Definitely like both, and I hope the real books continue to be printed.
